Fun and Educational Activities for Children

Written by Andy Martin
educational

Motherhood is a wonderful thing

In reality though, it may be quite a task. You need to worry about doing the house chores, paying the bills, keeping the bond with your partner strong, AND caring for your children.

Plus, you also need to think about your fabulous self. This is why mums like you are superwomen. You do everything and then some.

This is why sometimes, you don’t have enough energy and will to play with your children. Young kids can be annoying, truth be told. But the fact is, they need at least one parent to be present all the time. Mums almost always are the first to step up though most dads are willing to take the cudgel.

To keep the fun at home you need to know some fun and educational games.

Nope, the latest games or apps are out of the question. In fact, the first step to truly help your kids develop is to get rid of all the screens in your home. The least you can do is to lessen TV time and to avoid resorting to gadgets whenever things seem to get out of hand or you’re just too busy to deal with them.

Early on, teach your children the importance of actual play. There are tons of fun and educational activities for kids that you can do. These fun and educational games not only keep the kids happy and entertained, they also teach different skills and keep the brain working and developing.

Developing a little person’s motor skills

During the first couple of years, children learn to walk and talk. Now you may be tempted to tell your kid to walk the talk but you’re not dealing with your peers here. This is a totally different ballgame.

One way to help your child develop his motor skills is to play a game of “put everything in a box”. Ask your young ones to get all the scattered toys and put them inside a box or pail. Make sure to leave some on top of a table. This will allow them to develop their problem-solving skills by figuring out how to reach these toys.

You can walk the walk but can you talk the talk

When it comes to speech development, it pays to be talkative. Keep taking to your kid in a soft and sing-song manner. You can also seek the help of music. Sing your toddler a song every now and then or keep music playing in the background.

For those old enough, you can introduce chores. For busy mums like you, these chores can be taxing but for kids they’re fun. Let them help prepare meals. Show them how to crack an egg, slice some carrots, or to grate cheese.

Have some fun in the kitchen and teach about food

There are lots of fun and educational activities involving food and cooking. Pizza-making is an ideal and a fun, educational way to teach about food preparation. Buy your child a small broom so you can do some tandem sweeping. Let them help water the plants and do some digging.

Allow them to participate in doing household chores but be sure to do so with care. Do each chore slowly and carefully as if you’re handling each one with love. This will teach them how to love and care for anything, even the supposedly exhausting chores.

Concentrate this is the science bit

Early Years Educator CoursesOther fun and educational games for your kids involve playing with colours. You can go about with this in a variety of ways. The simplest is by using crayons and paint. Another fun way is to use food colour to brighten up even the simplest activity.

Show your kid how a volcano spews lava by creating one using baking soda, vinegar, and red food colour.

Make them enjoy bath or other water activities by adding colour. If you want to up the ante, crush one or two B vitamins high in Thiamine then dissolve in a cup of warm water.

Add this mixture into a tub filled with water, turn on your blacklight and watch your kids have fun in a glow-in-the-dark bath. This is the perfect way to teach the kids about water.

What other fun games can you think of that are fun and educational?
