About your Courses

Functional Skills courses are designed to give you the key practical skills you need to use in your everyday life. This course bundle allows you to study at your own pace, and should you decide to take the exams, you can gain nationally recognised GCSE alternative qualifications.

Functional Skills qualifications can help to improve your job prospects as well as get onto college and university courses. Additionally, you will develop skills that will give you greater confidence in work and at home whether that’s creating a budget or writing a formal letter.

You will learn everything the individual courses offer. You will study textual analysis, grammar, punctuation, biases in writing and more.

This course option also provides you with a specialist tutor who will guide you through your learning. You will receive two hours of on-to-one time with your tutor (an hour per subject) focussed on your unique needs and additional learning in areas you find difficult. You will be given an email address for your tutor who will be available for support during office hours.

In addition, you will have tutor-marked assignments and a full set of mock exams, all with feedback from your specialist tutor identifying any areas where you need further revision.

When you have completed the course material you’ll be ready to sit your online exam. Exams are not included in this course, but are available to purchase separately.

If you decide to take the exams, gaining a  Functional Skills Level 2 in English, means you'll get a qualification that is the equivalent to a grade C or above at GCSE (new grade 4). This means that you are able to demonstrate your ability to use both English and maths at this level. This is essential for certain careers – such as teaching – so your employment prospects open up considerably.
