Studying your A-Level

Studying A-Level or IA-Level Biology allows you to build on existing knowledge of the subject. You’ll analyse biological fundamentals in detail helping you to gain a deeper understanding of human biology and the world we inhabit.

During your studies you will cover the basic components of living organisms, biological molecules and genetics.

You will also explore ecosystems and the environment. You will be encouraged to draw links between the various elements such as the natural world and communicable diseases.

This course will have you develop a deeper understanding of biological principles such as genetics, patterns of inheritance, cloning and the biological process.

The course is designed to cover both the A-Level and International A-Level specifications, so when you book your exams you can choose which one you want to take.

You will have exams to complete in order to receive your qualification.

Exams will be a mixture of:

  • Short and long answer questions
  • Comprehension and extended response questions
  • Critical analysis of given experimental data
  • One essay from a choice of two titles

Throughout your exam, you’ll be expected to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of biological concepts, theories and research methods.

Upon completion of the course and your exams, you will have a wide-ranging understanding of the subject area which will support progression to degree-level study or career advancement.
