BIIAB, the British Institute of Innkeeping Awarding Body, is a government approved awarding body that has been raising standards in licenced retail since its formation in 1981. BIIAB are the premier awarding body for licenced retail in the UK and is owned by the registered charity BII. BIIAB offers a range of level 1-6 awards that cover the requirements of the licenced retail industry. They are perpetually developing their qualifcations to reflect demands of society, Police, Government and licenced retailers.

Learners will need to be in a role where they are giving advice and guidance to clients (this can be in a range of different settings but they do need to be able to demonstrate their work). There is a requirement for video evidence to be included, so settings with restrictions are not appropriate). As this is a Level 3 qualification, learners will be expected to have a good standard of written english and will be expected to use an appropriate referencing system.

Minimum age restriction

You must be aged 16 or above to enrol on this course.

Average completion timeframe

The average time it takes to complete this course is 12 months.

Assessement requirements

Your assessments will consist of: Q&A, Mentor Observation, Witness Statements

Placement or Practical required

Learners do need to be in an appropriate work setting to allow them to satisfy the criteria of the qualification.

Certification Timeframe

You should receive your certificate in 12 weeks, but that can be extended if an EQA sample is required.

  • Be able to minimise difficulties in communication

Unit Three: Support clients to make use of the advice and guidance service (L/602/5139)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to enable clients to decide whether to use the service
  • Be able to identify and provide accurate information required by clients
  • Understand the services provided by other suitable services
  • Be able to provide information on other suitable services
  • Be able to agree with clients their use of the service

Unit Four: Develop interactions with advice and guidance clients  (F/602/5140)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to enable clients to explore their issues
  • Be able to sustain interactions with clients
  • Be able to bring interactions to a close

Unit Five: Interact with clients using a range of media( J/602/5141)

On completion of this unit you will:

  • Be able to establish interaction with clients using a range of media
  • Be able to deal with problems maintaining interactions
  • Be able to provide information and focus on the clients’ requirements
