About your Exam

This online Functional Skills maths exam allows you to gain your qualification from home, without the need, inconvenience and cost of travelling to an exam centre.

This allows you to take your exam at a time and date that works for you. If you’re juggling a full-time job and/or a family this can make the difference between having the opportunity to gain your qualification and not.

This option is also beneficial for anyone with physical disabilities that can make travelling a challenge. Or anyone with mental health issues where going into an exam environment could be overwhelming.

Or, quite simply, if you’d rather take the exam in the privacy of your own home, without other learners all around you.

Achieving the qualification in Functional Skills Mathematics proves that you can use everyday maths to solve problems in life and at work. Most colleges and universities accept Functional Skills Qualifications as a recognised GCSE equivalent.

How it Works

Our online Functional Skills maths exam allows you to sit the exam using your computer rather than a paper test you complete by hand.

The exam is still invigilated using our remote classroom technology, so you’ll need a functioning webcam and microphone. But we will provide you with our guide to remote exams when you book, so you can fully understand the process.

We will also give you some time before the exam to make sure you know how to use the software, so that once the exam starts, you'll feel relaxed and able to concentrate putting your newly developed skills to work.

Our Functional Skills exams are available at Level 1 and Level 2 and are delivered by our partner Future Skills, a division of learndirect. They are accredited by NCFE, an Awarding Organisation approved by Ofqual to provide Functional Skills qualifications. Ofqual is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation – the regulatory body who regulate qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.

Great news... there are no entry requirements for this bundle! All you need is a laptop or computer with an internet connection for your learning.

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

*You will have access to the course for 12 months.

The Functional Skills qualification in Mathematics consists of one exam which is in two parts – a non-calculator section and a calculator section. The exam determines whether you can use your maths skills such as:

  • addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • decimals, fractions and percentages
  • working out distance, weight, temperature and volume
  • reading and creating charts and tables
  • mean, median and mode
  • probability

Completing the exam will prove that you can solve mathematical problems in everyday situations.

When you're ready for your exam, please contact upskilluk@learndirect.com exams are available at any time, on any day.

Before you can book your exam, if you have paid by an instalment plan, all your payments must be up to date at the point of booking. It is not possible to book an exam date before the final payment of your payment plan is due to be successfully made. As an example, if you are up to date with your payment plan and two payments are due in the future, an exam can be booked, however, the exam date booking must be after the final payment is due to be successfully received. If you need to bring this date forward our team can work with you to bring your payment plan forward.
