Integrative therapy is a combination of various psychotherapy elements from different schools of therapy, applied to the treatment of a client. Since Sigmund Freud who developed psychoanalysis, various other disciplines splintered off. By now there are hundreds of different theories of psychotherapy being practised. During this integrated therapeutic counselling course, you will be able to study concepts of Rogerian therapy, communication skills, behavioural therapy, person-centred counselling, Gestalt therapy, transactional analysis, primal therapy. Finally, you will be able to understand how all these different disciplines come together under the integrated psychotherapy umbrella to help you provide a tailored experience of care to your clients.
The course has a recommended 260 hours of study, to provide students with a comprehensive view of all different types of therapy theories and application. It is entirely up to you if you choose to complete the course in this time, later or earlier.
This online course would suit researchers, therapists and theoreticians for a better view on different approaches to therapy. Therapists practising a pure approach nowadays are fewer than those that take a combined method. Therapists that offer an integrated approach will often experience better, more efficient results in their sessions.
You do not need any prior experience or qualifications to enrol on this course. The only requirements are an interest in the topic, the motivation to complete the course and a way to access the online study materials.
At the end of this course, you will a great understanding of key models and theories in therapy, but you will have also learnt about the client – counsellor relationship and the hands-on aspects of running a practice. Those looking to complement their studies, can delve deeper into any of the theory models presented in the course. Alternatively, you could study other forms of therapy, such as subjective therapies, intersubjective therapies, objective or interobjective. Each field will contribute to a better perspective for diagnosis and assistance.
*Please note that this course will not qualify you as a counsellor
The field of therapy is varied and has plenty of career options. The Learner Unit Summary may be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this subject. The Quality Licence Scheme endorsement involves robust and rigorous quality audits by external auditors to ensure quality is continually met. A review of courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process.
