About your Course

As a qualified teaching assistant, you will already be established in your career, helping dozens of pupils develop and progress through their education.

But if you want to progress your career further, this course will give you the knowledge and skills to do so.

This level 4 qualification will enable you to take the step up to a higher-level teaching assistant. As a higher-level teaching assistant, you will have the skills to teach classes on your own and cover planned absences.

This provides your teacher and the school with an invaluable source of support, reducing costs and giving your teacher time to plan lessons and mark work.

During this Level 4 teaching assistant online course, you will understand the principles of child development and wellbeing. You will also learn how to positively support children young people on their journey through education.

Part of this will be developing the skills to build effective relationships with children, families, carers and teachers, plus tactics for creating efficient lesson plans, monitoring pupils and delivering assessments.

Getting Started

Whether you have worked with children your entire life, or you’re launching your new career, this course is completely accessible regardless of your existing qualifications or experience.

As there are no entry requirements you can enrol straight away and study in your own time, at home. You will be able to access the course materials online and therefore plan your study around any other commitments.

If you are already working as a teaching assistant, you will be able to apply your learning right away.

Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for any higher-level teaching assistant roles.

About your Placement

To gain your level 4 higher-level teaching assistant qualification, you will be required to complete a 50-hour placement within a school setting.

The work experience can be paid or voluntary and it can take place in an infant, primary or secondary school. If you already work in a school setting you can gain your 50-hours there.

Our dedicated support team can help with any questions but, for peace of mind, we recommend that the work experience required should not take place in the following settings:

  • Nursery
  • Pre-school
  • After school clubs
  • Holiday clubs
  • College
  • University
  • Any other alternative learning environments i.e. open learning colleges, Sunday schools etc.
