Diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills is covered. Finally, the counselling skills and personal development unit will give you the opportunity to reflect on your own personal and future development. This can help you to see how personal qualities are relevant to helping roles.

This Stonebridge home study course has been designed for a wide range of learners. No prior learning knowledge or experience is required to take this course.  It’s openly available to anyone wishing to learn more at home. You’ll be able to learn and gain a qualification in your own time and at your own pace.

What qualification will you get?

You’ll be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (RQF) Qualification (600/0728/X) qualification after you’ve successfully finished on the distance learning course. It’s a nationally recognised qualification.

One of the benefits of the course qualification and other RQF courses that we offer is that learners can transfer credit from one qualification to another. Learners who’ve already achieved one or more of the units (in these RQF qualifications) can transfer the credit already achieved.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification, however, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification.

Minimum age restriction

Learners must be age 16+ to enrol.

Average completion timeframe

You have 24 months to complete your course.

Assessement requirements

There is no practical placement involved in this course, however, learners will need to work with willing 'clients' in order to provide the correct audio/visual evidence, where necessary, throughout the units. You will need to complete case studies and various role play assessments.

Placement or Practical required

This course consists of online theory and roleplay activities.

Certification Timeframe

Learners typically receive their certification within 12 weeks, though this can be longer if an EQA sample is required.

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

UNIT 2: INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELLING SKILLS THEORIES (K/502/6630)

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Know the significance of counselling theory

UNIT 3: DIVERSITY AND ETHICS IN THE USE OF COUNSELLING SKILLS (M/502/6631)

The learning outcomes for this unit are:               

  • Know how an ethical framework relates to the use of counselling skills
  • Know what discrimination means
  • Understand about anti-discriminatory practice

UNIT 4: COUNSELLING SKILLS AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT (T/502/6632)

The learning outcomes for this unit are:

  • Know how to develop self understanding
  • Know personal qualities relevant to the helping roles
  • Know how to meet own support needs
  • Know how self reflection contributes to personal development
